With amazing natural landscapes, parks and open spaces, we're looking for an enthusiastic Parks and Open Spaces Officer to join us in Bexley. Reporting directly to the Parks & Landscape Manager within the Leisure, Parks and Open Spaces team. This role is responsible for project managing a portfolio of small to large-scale contract and improvement schemes, engagement with Friends of Groups, volunteers and stakeholders, alongside supporting the development of policies and strategies across the department. You will support the delivery of the Parks and Open Spaces ambitions, working within a committed and enthusiastic team of colleagues.
We are seeking to appoint a well organised Parks & Open Spaces Officer who can support and deliver a multitude of projects across the department simultaneously. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced across a range of project development and delivery schemes, programmes or initiatives within an outdoor environment, including budgetary monitoring, financial reporting and contract management capabilities, ensuring required conformity and standards are achieved. Current projects include supporting design and installation of; children's play areas, outdoor sports and gym facilities, allotment improvement and a range of small infrastructure improvements and natural environment projects.
You will also lead on motivating, engaging and building upon an established group of volunteers and Friends of Groups who maintain Council owned open spaces working in partnership with grounds maintenance teams and contractors. You will seek opportunities to grow volunteer activity, lead on horticultural tasks, and support wider Council events and activities at Council parks and open spaces.
Candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, liaising directly with, appointing and managing suppliers and contractors, capable of producing technical reports, support with funding bids, advise on planning and development applications, and deliver briefing notes and reports to a wide range of audiences.
You will need to be able to attend open space sites in a variety of settings and hold a clean Driving Licence.
This is a hybrid working role spending some time working at home supported by excellent ICT and your main office will be based at Civic Offices, Bexleyheath and able to hot desk at Hall Place House and Gardens offices, Crayford.
