The role
Working alongside our Environmental Health and Public Health colleagues you will be responsible for setting up and delivering the Healthier Catering Commitment (HCC) pilot scheme across Bexley’s food businesses. The pilot will run for 6 months with the possibility of extension and will contribute directly to Bexley’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Healthy Weight Strategic Partnership Action Plan.
The role requires the post holder to work closely with Public Health and Environmental Health colleagues in order to set up, design, deliver and review an initial 6 month pilot which can then be rolled out across other areas of the borough to improve and increase the number of healthier food options available in Bexley’s takeaways and other catering food businesses.
You will set up the project and be responsible for working within businesses within the agreed project area for them to meet the HCC criteria of the scheme.
You will be required to carry out site visits and work closely with food businesses, providing advice to help ensure issues are resolved. The role also includes report writing, performance reporting and the provision of information to stakeholders.
This is a part time role working two days a week.
You will be given training to carry out this role.
About the Healthier Catering Commitment:
The Healthier Catering Commitment for London is a scheme that recognises those businesses in London that demonstrate a commitment to developing a healthier food offer. The London Borough of Bexley has been a member of this scheme since its launch but over the last two years the scheme has not been progressed due to lack of staff capacity.
The scheme provides practical advice to food businesses on straightforward changes that can be made to menus and food preparation to help make food healthier and enable food businesses to achieve the HCC award. Once a business has achieved accreditation, it is valid for two years and is reviewed regularly to ensure that standards and requirements are adhered to between renewal periods. Eligibility for the HCC award is open to food business operators (FBOs) who achieve a Food Hygiene Rating Score (FHRS) of 3 or higher.
