  • About The Role

  • Bexley is a great place in which to live, work or study. It has the best of both worlds - close to the centre of London but still a green, safe, and friendly place to be. And our mission is to make Bexley even better by tackling health inequalities, supporting residents to live the best lives possible and to reach their potential.

    To help us achieve our ambitions we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, team player to join our public health team. This is an opportunity for someone looking to broaden their existing knowledge of public health or bring existing transferable skills to develop a public health career.

    You will build your knowledge in public health and support in the development and implementation of agreed public health programmes linked to identified local health priorities that support adults. You will contribute the development of key strategies and plans and ensure that commissioned programmes improve resident outcomes and help tackle health inequalities.

    This post will be based within the Public Health Children and Young People’s team, primarily focussing on Children and Young People’s mental health and wellbeing. Close working with a range of partners, including schools, will be required along with the facilitation of groups and, potentially, the delivery of training. The postholder will both lead and support a number of key Public Health projects, including:

    • The mapping and review of mental health prevention and wellbeing for children and young people within the Borough;
    • Annual training of youth mental health ambassadors within Bexley secondary schools and coordination of a termly forum;
    •  Termly support to senior mental health wellbeing leads (school staff) within Bexley schools;
    • To ensure Public Health input and support to the development and delivery of a range of programmes, including Healthy Schools London (HSL), GLA whole school approach to mental health, suicide prevention and coordination of school surveys.

     If you are enthusiastic about making a difference to the lives of residents and developing a career in public health, then we would like to hear from you.

    For an informal discussion about the role please contact Julie Tilbrook, Public Health Strategist, Telephone: 020 3045 3834, [email protected]

    Please refer to the Job Description attached for more information.

    Candidate Profile

    You must have a formal qualification, preferably to a degree level, in a discipline relevant to the responsibilities of Public Health within a Local Authority context, or equivalent work experience.

    Have knowledge of public health concepts and have a passion for improving health and wellbeing.

    Have strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write concise and evidence-based reports and briefings for a range of audiences.

    Your adaptability and organisational skills will enable you to manage competing priorities, and you will remain flexible and adaptable working within the team.

    Be able to work across boundaries and contribute effectively to partnership working.

    Able to demonstrate your passion and commitment to ongoing professional development and your ability to deliver against the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework.

    You want to ‘Make Bexley Even Better.’ We encourage residents to apply.

    We will offer you support in a friendly and supportive environment and assist you in your development. We will invest in you by offering training and learning opportunities where available, including working across the team and within our partnerships to develop your skills and knowledge.

    More about the post:

    Interviews expected: week commencing 24th November or 1st December 2025.

    We will consider internal secondments to this post based on the demonstration of skills and competencies commensurate with the post.
