We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Private Sector Leasing Officer to join our Housing team. This role is critical in ensuring the effective management and maintenance of the Council’s leased and temporary accommodation properties. You will manage a portfolio of approximately 80–150 properties, taking responsibility for tenancy management, property maintenance, void management, and landlord relations.
The role involves working closely with internal departments, external agencies, landlords, and tenants to meet both community and local government targets. You will also be responsible for issuing new leases, re-letting properties, ensuring compliance with housing standards and legislation, and managing budgets for repairs, maintenance, and incentives.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

Proven experience in housing management, tenancy management, or property/letting services, preferably in the public sector.

Strong knowledge of homelessness, housing, and environmental health legislation.

Experience managing property portfolios, including repairs, maintenance, voids, and budgets.

Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills, able to work under pressure.

Experience working with vulnerable tenants and understanding of safeguarding and support needs.

Strong communication and relationship management skills with tenants, landlords, and internal teams.

Ability to handle complaints, anti-social behaviour, and enforcement actions effectively.

Competence in managing budgets and monitoring expenditure, including authorising payments in line with Council procedures.

Knowledge of the Housing heath and safety rating system - HHSRS

Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
Desirable:

Experience promoting private sector leasing schemes or similar initiatives to landlords.

Knowledge of ICT systems relevant to property and housing management.

Experience in policy development or performance reporting.
